Patrick Wayne Swayze was born on August 18, 1952, in Houston, Texas, the second child of Patsy Swayze (née Karnes 1927–2013), a dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor, and Jesse Wayne Swayze (1925–1982), an engineering draftsman. In 2009, Swayze died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. Swayze co-wrote and recorded the popular song " She's Like the Wind" and was posthumously awarded the Rolex Dance Award in 2012.
